Let's consider X Money for a minute.

First off...

What is X Money?

X Money is a financial system which is part of the X social platform. The site says this: "Your money, on the world's
most powerful network." The idea is, you put your money there, and it gives you returns like an investment. You can use it to make an receive payments. There's even a X visa card.

It sounds just like a bank to me. Except, it's not a bank, apparently. My first thought on learning that was that banks are secured with FDIC, so how about X Money? Apparently, your money is protected there with FDIC through a partner bank.

"One app. Everything money can do." it says on their site. Color me a skeptic. I'm not about to go pouring all my money into this not bank just because they have an app and some hopes of a return on investment 😑. Actually, it all sounds too risky to me.

I'll consider further though. What else does their site say? "Get paid up to 2 days early with direct deposit — then send wires, mail checks, and pay your bills, all without leaving X." Is that an incentive? 🤨 They're assuming people would not want to leave X to do something else?

X isn't the first to have thoughts like that. I remember a long time ago, Farmville was the thing in Facebook. You didn't have to leave Facebook to play casual games. How convenient, right? Skype had that too. You could play games right from there. Granted, I'm one to talk, since you can play some little games right here on this site. My point is, I don't think "all without leaving X" is a big selling point. At least, it isn't for me, since I hardly ever use X.

Back when X was Twitter, I tried it for a time. I browsed tweets, and I even made some tweets, but in the end, short, public messages just aren't the thing for me. I prefer thoughts that continue, posts with more content - things that make you think more than a single thought.

Maybe it's the case that a single thought already makes some people tired. Multiple subsequent thoughts aren't for the faint of heart, are they?

On about X Money, here's one selling point that actually could be attractive. "Pay anyone on X - free and with no limits." That might be kind of nice, actually. I'm thinking, someone could offer a product for sale in a tweet, then an X Money user could just tap that tweet and buy it.

Wait, are they still called tweets? It's not called Twitter anymore. Are they called Exes? Twexes? Musk drops?

Let's see what else X Money has to offer. "Your account is secured with passkeys, custom transaction limits, and advanced privacy controls." Those sound good until you consider the implications of those words. Think about how it would sound if other products were marketed like that. Guarantees that your car comes with a working key. The windows of your Earthbnb have closable blinds. You are promised a landing when you fly with Omega Air. All wonderful news. Very well assuring. Kind of like when your condo comes with complimentary breathable air and enough ventilation to replenish the oxygen in said air so you can survive in it.

They also say "Dedicated support, when you need it." I can see it now.

Hello, condo customer service? My condo comes with ventilation, but we can hardly breathe!

Sorry sir, the complimentary ventilation is only has sufficient air holes for one person. You'll need to purchase the deluxe package for premium ventilation to support life for multiple people in your condo.

Sure, I'm nit picking a service that I never tried, but hey, that's just what everyone is doing in their head when looking at this thing, aren't they? I'm just writing about it.

Looking at their site again, and what do I notice, but floating numbers. One that says "For Cybertruck". One that says "Japan trip". One that says "Holiday Gifts". One that says "Emergency". One that says "Savings". These look almost exactly marquees to me. I remember the good old days when marquees were so popular that all you needed was a single HTML tag to make one. The MARQUEE tag!

That got me thinking, I wonder if that tag still works. Just now I went over to Google in Firefox, opened up the page debugger with the F12 key, then used the element selector to locate the Google logo on the page. It's an SVG element. The parent element is a div. I double clicked on the tag name and it let me edit the tag. I typed in "marquee" (without quotes). Just like that, the Google logo starts floating across the screen. How about that? Marquee technology is still working great.

I'm picking on their floating numbers. The real worry is of course the real numbers, the ones that would represent what you have if you should choose to put your money into X Money. Are they also going to float away? I wonder if it was such a great idea to have those numbers fade off into the distance on the X Money site. That puts some imagery in me of my own money, given to them, floating off in the distance. Maybe I lose my 2FA or something, then suddenly I can't access my account. Oops, all gone, no more money for you 🙈️️.
